👀 Looking for sustainable products?
One of the most common questions I receive is: "Where can I find sustainable X?" X could be clothes, food, personal care products, or even gadgets.
Until now, I've been responding by sending links to sustainable brands. But I believe it's time to change my approach.
The most sustainable products are likely already in your home. You own them.
Often, all they need is some cleaning or repairing to be as good as new.
By using what you already have, you prevent these items from ending up in landfills and reduce the demand for new products.
Even if new products are labeled "sustainable," they still consume resources, require packaging and shipping, create waste, and emit carbon.
All of this can be avoided by simply continuing to use what you have—even if it wasn't originally from a sustainable brand.
So, before you rush to buy something sustainable, take a look in your closet—you might already own the most sustainable option!

✨ Startup of the week: Minus Coffee
Coffee is affecting climate change. And climate change is affecting coffee. This brand is building a solution to take us out of this vicious cycle.
Bean Bummer…Coffee is the second most consumed beverage after water. But it's a resource-intensive crop. One cup of coffee requires 37 gallons (140 liters) of water, and 1 kg of coffee creates 28.35 kg of carbon emissions, contributing to the climate crisis. Ironically, coffee production itself is suffering from climate change. Extreme temperatures are destroying coffee crops and making conditions less suitable for cultivation. This creates a vicious cycle: coffee production contributes to climate change, which in turn harms coffee production.
Alternative…Minus aims to break this cycle by replacing coffee beans. Instead, it uses upcycled pits, roots, and seeds. These ingredients are fermented, roasted, and brewed like traditional coffee—and they taste like it too. Here's how Minus achieves this. It uses:
☕ Earthy lentils & toasted sunflower seeds to provide a dusting of cocoa and nuts.
☕ Grape seeds to provide a buttery pie crust essence.
☕ Date seeds to punch in the fruit and flower power.
☕ Burnt sugar millet malt to bring forth a bright, and citrusy acidity.
Bean-Free Brew…These ingredients require less water and produce fewer carbon emissions. This innovative approach makes coffee production independent of traditional beans, thereby reducing its impact on the climate crisis.

😹 News That Lifted My Spirits This Week
🐄 Dutch Moo-ve…The European Commission has approved a €700 million Dutch initiative to compensate farmers who voluntarily close their livestock operations in specific regions of the Netherlands. This scheme, aimed at improving environmental quality and promoting sustainable farming practices, will focus on priority areas like peatlands, sandy soils, and areas near Natura 2000 sites. Small and medium-sized livestock farmers in eligible areas can participate until October 1, 2029.
🇸🇬 Food for Thought…Singapore has passed the Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill, aiming to reduce food waste and encourage donations. The law protects food donors from legal liability for any issues arising from consuming donated food, as long as they meet specific food safety and hygiene conditions. This legislation allows donors to contribute excess or unsold food without fear of legal repercussions under strict food safety regulations.
🌱 Crop and Cultivate…India's stepping up its farming game! The government just rolled out 109 new crop varieties that can handle climate change like champs. These high-yielding, biofortified crops span 61 different types and were unveiled at the Pusa Institute in New Delhi. It's a big win for Indian farmers, who've been battling extreme weather.
