🥂 Get a Free Lunch and a Glass of Wine
Copenhagen has introduced a new program called CopenPay. The program started on July 15 and will run till August 11.
The idea is to inculcate sustainable practices among tourists.
All you have to do is engage in sustainable activities such as
🚮 Litter picking
🚲 Biking
🚊 Using public transport.
As proof, you need to show a public transport ticket or provide evidence of your sustainable actions, such as a photo of litter picking. And you can earn rewards like
🍽️ Free lunches
☕ Coffees
👣 Museum tours
🍷 Glasses of wine
🚣🏼♀️ Kayak rentals
If this pilot program succeeds, the city might extend it throughout the year.
If you are in Copenhagen or planning to visit soon, let us know if you have seen this in action.
Also, have you seen something similar implemented by your city?
⌛ Time for the quiz of the week
Have you heard of bottom trawling?
Bottom trawling involves dragging a large net across the ocean floor behind a trawler. Scientists worldwide have identified it as a harmful practice that can permanently damage ecosystems, release carbon into the ocean, and significantly contribute to overfishing.
In addition to damaging the ocean floor, this method is non-selective: bottom trawls capture nearly everything in their path, including non-target species such as juvenile fish, dolphins, and endangered whales. This bycatch typically ends up dead, and the unwanted animals are discarded as waste.
This country has recently banned this fishing method in all of its territorial waters.

You can hold your trash in front of this screen and it will tell you where bin should you throw it in…
Trash Talk…Segregating trash can be challenging. For instance, where should a paper napkin go? Should it be recycled or discarded as waste? What if it is soiled? The answer varies. Each country and city has its own set of rules, which often confuses consumers and leads to improper waste segregation.
Trash Tech…Intuitive AI is solving this problem using AI, through their product Oscar Sort.
Here’s how it works:
🗑️ A user shows the object they are about to throw out to the scanner.
🗑️ The Oscar station will tell them where it should go.
🗑️ The more often a station is used, the more it learns which objects should go in which bin.
Sort Smart…These stations can be customized for various clients and locations. They can also incorporate a reward system where users receive a QR code for proper segregation, which can then be redeemed for discounts on products, further encouraging correct disposal practices.
