🚀 This founder is building an ANTI fast fashion brand
Victorine van der Ven had worked in the fashion industry for years. That’s when she realized that the fast fashion industry is far from being sustainable.
She saw firsthand how stocks piled up in warehouses and stores and if they weren’t sold, they were simply discarded.
That’s when she decided that she wanted to change how the industry works.
And she did that by launching an on-demand fashion brand, THE LAUNCH.
The brand works on a zero overproduction & minimal waste model.
This is how they operate:
👚 Every month, they launch a new collection, with limited-edition items.
👚 You order your item and they produce it specially for you.
👚 In 3 weeks, you receive your handmade order.
So only those items that have been pre-ordered are produced. Nothing more, nothing less.
Also, the brand uses materials that have a lower impact on the planet. This includes:
👕 Deadstock fabrics: leftover fabrics of the fashion industry.
👕 Recycled fabrics: made from reclaimed textiles.
👕 Renewable fabrics: derived from natural materials.
👕 Regenerative fabrics: made using farming methods that restore ecosystems and improve soil health.
Looks like THE LAUNCH is truly weaving a sustainable future - one thread at a time!
⌛ Time for the quiz of the week
Did you know most of our clothes are made from plastic? According to a 2019 study, x% of all materials used by the fashion industry are made from plastic.
If you’re interested in reading more about synthetic clothes, here’s a piece that I wrote a while back- How Bad Are Synthetic Clothes?
Answer at the end of the newsletter. No one (including me) can see your response so feel free to vote 😉
✨ Startup of the week: Zymochem
300,000 diapers are incinerated or thrown in a landfill every minute. This brand wants to solve this problem…
Diaper Dilemma…Let’s talk about disposable, absorbent hygiene products such as diapers and menstrual care products. These products contain a super absorbent polymer (SAP) which prevents leakage of liquids. Most of us wouldn’t have heard about it but this is a primary component of these products. Now SAPs are mostly fossil fuel-based, so their sourcing and production leads to greenhouse gas emissions. Once they are disposed of, they take decades or centuries to degrade.
ZymoChem is solving this problem through a 100% bio-based SAP known as BAYSE™.
🩲 It is made from renewable resources.
🩲 It is plastic-free and readily biodegradable.
🩲 It has a lower carbon footprint.
Absorbent Advance…ZymoChem has built this through a proprietary biomanufacturing technology that keeps the cost of BAYSE™ competitive. This ensures that customers won’t pay a premium cost for sustainable products. While their solution is primarily focused on hygiene products, it can also be applied to other fields such as agriculture, cosmetics, and water treatment.
This type of breakthrough can help brands like Pampers and Always move to a more sustainable path.
