🍍 Sip & save in this zero waste juice bar
Situated in Bengaluru, India, Eat Raja is India’s first zero-waste fruit juice bar.
The shop does not use any plastic or paper cups or straws.
Instead, it offers juice in the shell or husk of the fruit from which the juice is made.
You can also choose to bring your own steel cups and get a discount. If you really need a straw, they can provide one made of steel or bamboo.
What a beautiful way to repurpose the fruit shells and avoid single-use plastic.
Thanks for sharing this with me, Roshni.
The following stat about e-waste blew my mind 🤯

✨ Startup of the week
Straw wars…Plastic straws have been villainized enough. They got replaced by paper straws which have their own problems. Some of them have plastic linings between them to make them leakproof. Others are made with multiple layers and are stuck together using adhesives. This makes them hard to decompose. Also, who loves that cardboard feeling while sipping?
A sip of sustainability…India-based Sunbird Straws is tackling all of that through straws made from dried coconut leaves. These coconut leaves usually end up in landfills or are burnt. Sunbird is upcycling them to create 100% biodegradable straws. They can be used in any drink for up to three hours.
They are multi-layered with natural anti-fungal and hydrophobic outer and inner walls.
They don’t become soggy or leak glue and color like paper straws.
They are created with a chemical-free process.
Leafy innovation…These straws are created by rural women in India which provides them an opportunity to earn. The startup also makes the world’s first writing pens from coconut leaves.
