🚯 From landfill to the living room
A small team of glassblowers set out to change the world of design and glassblowing in 2016.
Glass is an infinitely recyclable material. But globally, only around 35% of the glass is recycled.
The rest of it ends up in landfills, where it takes a million years or more to decompose!
Remark Glass started with a mission to divert glass from the landfill.
Along with its sister non-profit Bottle Underground, it collects bottles and jars from local businesses and community members.
Their process involves cleaning and delabeling the used bottles, cutting and finishing them for reheating, and then reshaping them into new forms.
They are transformed into small-batch home accessories like the pint glasses below:

✨ Startup of the week
Salubata
Plastic peril…Plastic waste is a major global issue, and Nigeria is no exception. The country's drainage systems have been clogged with plastic, leading to flooding and health problems. This brand has found a solution to this crisis.
Sole-ving Nigeria's plastic crisis…Salubata is solving the plastic waste crisis by making modular shoes from recycled plastic waste. The company collaborates with waste collectors to collect plastic waste, which is then transformed into shoes through a patented process
👟 Each shoe comes with a detachable base and an upper half.
👟 Many uppers of different colors can be purchased and attached to this base.
👟 This allows you to have multiple shoes without buying different shoes.
A step in the right direction…Salubata is saving the planet by keeping plastic out of landfills and oceans while providing extra income for waste collectors.
