☀️ Roofs With Inbuilt Solar Panels
When we think of solar energy, we immediately think of solar panels. To install these solar panels, we need roofs. But sunlight falls everywhere, not just on roofs.
It also falls on vertical structures like pillars and window panes.
What if we can generate solar energy from them as well?
But here’s the problem- traditional solar panels cannot be installed vertically.
Heliatek is solving this problem. It makes solar films that are less than 2mm in thickness.
These films are 10 times lighter than solar panels and can be applied anywhere, from facades and roofs to pillars, wind turbines, and glass panes.
Unlike solar panels, these films don’t use rare earth metals or toxic materials, making them more planet-friendly.
They have an efficiency of 8% vs 20% that a traditional solar panel has and Heliatek is working on this.
Soon, Heliatek plans to build 10 more factories to cater to the rising demand.
It is also exploring ways to work with roof manufacturers to have these solar films built into the roofs.
I feel that would be a game-changer. What do you think?
On that note, did you know which are the top 10 solar-producing countries in the world?

✨ Startup of the week: SolarMente
This duo is on a mission to democratize solar energy, making it accessible to everyone.
Bright Future…Our energy consumption is a big part of the climate crisis, mainly because we rely so much on fossil fuels. To tackle this, we need to shift to cleaner energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal. Solar power is a great option for homeowners, but many are put off by the initial cost. That's where SolarMente steps in with a solution.
Solar Rental Revolution…SolarMente offers a subscription-based service where residents can rent a solar setup for a monthly fee, with no upfront costs. The monthly rent covers installation and maintenance, and the system is designed to last for 20-25 years.
Power Payoff…Homeowners start seeing immediate benefits, such as a noticeable reduction in their energy bills. They can even use the extra power to share with friends or family or to offset their bills. SolarMente has initiated this service in Spain, a country blessed with abundant sunshine, and plans to expand to other countries soon.
