🪑 From sitting to selling: A chair's second chance
As I have been doing a lot of writing in the past few months, I have also been sitting more. Therefore, I decided to invest in a better chair. While the one I had served its purpose, it lacked proper support.
However, since the old chair was still in great shape, I didn't want it to end up in a landfill. So I decided to list it on the Karrot app, a platform for buying and selling used items.
The app allows you to set your location and search for items in your neighborhood.
If an item doesn't sell within a few days, the app encourages you to offer a discount and boosts your post. Every time I did this, new buyers showed interest.
The actual transaction takes place outside the app, and both the buyer and seller have the option to leave reviews afterward.
If I hadn't been able to sell it on the Karrot app, I would have tried to give it away for free using the Buy Nothing group on Facebook. It's a great way to share unwanted items with your neighbors.

A solution that is tackling two of the biggest challenges of our time
Overfishing and food waste…Fish is a popular protein source worldwide, often sourced from fish farms. These farms feed smaller fish, known as forage fish, to the larger fish. However, as the global population increases, the demand for fish grows, leading to overfishing of forage fish. This depletes the food supply for larger fish in the wild and disrupts the ocean ecosystem. At the same time, we are facing the issue of growing food waste. Every year, millions of tons of food are wasted.
Flyvolutionary solution…Stratium is solving both of these problems and its solution lies in black soldier flies (BSF). These are found worldwide in warmer climates. BSF can eat only as larvae. They can consume up to 10 times their body weight every day. It converts food waste into a protein-rich ingredient for fish.
This is how it operates-
Pre-consumer industrial food waste like discards from bread and cereal manufacturing is collected.
This food waste is kept in a warm, humid room and BSF larvae are introduced to feed on it.
Larvae can consume food waste and, using a proprietary process, become a protein source for fish in fish farms.
Reel revolution…This creates a sustainable alternative to foraging fish and prevents food from ending up in landfills. A beautiful circular solution!
